Rancho Chico, Tonasket, Wash.

Yesterday, while on our big adventure down to Omak, we stopped in at Rancho Chico in the pretty town of Tonasket. I think Don and I were the only two people that didn’tknow about this restaurant. The border guard told us about it the last trip we took and yesterday our landscaping crew all said it was the best place to go to.

Well…..they were absolutely right. It was like walking into Mexico and finding an eating establishment. It doesn’t get any more authentic that this.  From the start, we were diving into a large bowl of warm tortilla chips, spicy sauce and a coleslaw consisting of onions, cucumbers, and cabbage.

Don and Kelly each ordered the Expresso Burrito consisting of pork, rice, beans and cheese, topped with guacamole, tomatoes, onions and topped with a salsa verde with a sprinkling of parmesan cheese. If licking the plate is an example of righteous etiquette, these two would have done it.

I ordered the Chimichanga which is made up of a rolled flour tortilla filled with shredded beef, lettuce, refried beans, rice and a beef, tomato, lettuce taco. WHEW! We all shared this one as well.

Some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. Price is only $$ and we will DEFINITELY be back. If you want to try it , drive to Tonasket and pay them a visit.

Their webpage is a work in progress but keep trying.

Miradoro Restaurant- Tinhorn Creek Winery

With Kelly here visiting from Calgary, we decided to take her to the
Mirdoro Restaurant. Good decision for sure.

Kelly and I each ordered a glass of Gerwurstraminer wine and Pinot Gris. Both were excellent choices.

Tonight we opted for the 3 course dinner special. Two of us ordered the sweet corn soup with pickled chantrelle mushrooms and olive oil. Absolutely fabulous. Don ordered the beef carpaccio, It looked great and he and Kelly shared their dishes with each other. Both of them loved it. If I could even begin to remember what all was in this dish  would. It so happens the presentation takes your breath away.

Then came the pizza, It was chorizo sausage, red peppers, chili peppers and was a little spicy but very, very good.  Our server, Justin, also presented us with an appetizer from the 4 course dinner. Forgive me if I get this all wrong but it was tuna with powdered black olives, aioli,  pea shoots, capers, grape tomatoes and was exceptional. There are more ingredients, but I don’t remember them all.

Then came the third course (naturally  we had a 2nd glass of wine). The dessert consisted of an almond cookie, with baked peaches and in a corner of the plate was a scoop of vanilla bean gelato set upon some crushed nut brittle.

If we could stand on the chair and give 3 cheers, we would. Outstanding food, great restaurant and Justin, our server, is a professional to the nth degree. Knowledgeable, friendly and right on the money and remembers everything. This gentleman is a gem in their crown for sure.

This is a must go to restaurant. It is $$$ and worth it.
