A Visit To Parksville

On Sunday, after Church and a light lunch (that is another story) Don decided to take a drive to Parksville to sightsee. We had never been there and the drive is very beautiful. We stopped off and played a game of Mini Golf (it had been years) and this one is the most interesting and challenging game designs that I have ever played. It was a lot of fun and on a beautiful sunny afternoon, it couldn’t be better.

Now, it is time for lunch. Where to go? We drove down the highway for a bit and nothing came to mind but Don said, let’s try to find a Pub as they always have good food. I tried to google it and found 3 listed. One was about 40 km from where we were and the other? HAHAHA It was 150 ft ahead of us.  It is the RJ Rod & Gun Hospitality .

We went in and it is huge. They have one of the longest bars and it looks like a Saloon of old in the middle of a large room. I thought this was the entire restaurant but it is not.  They have an dining room on the other side of this and then, again, you go outside to a patio area. For those who smoke, there is an ‘upper deck’ just for that purpose. Grab a beer and away you go.

Our server, Chelsii was delightful and very helpful. She talked about the City, beaches and how wonderful it was to live here. We found the prices for food is a lot less expensive here than, say a larger City.

Don ordered the Bangers and Mash and I ordered the ‘Loaded Local’. A burger that had beef, bacon, mushrooms, tomato, lettuce and a pickle. Whew! Don like the Bangers and Mash and his beer. Because they had only one brand of wine (one I won’t consume) I ordered a Michelobe Ultra Beer. I find it even better than Coors Light and that used to be the only beer I would ever try, if I had to.  We spent a most enjoyable time in this establishment and I can honestly say, we will be back.

Back home we go and, again, it is a wonderful drive and we have so much more to peruse here on the Island.

The Village Café and Deli

After watching a segment on “You Gotta Eat Here”, we decided we would check it out. So far John has been right on in his showcasing a restaurant. It is teeny-tiny in size. But it is clean and the servers are the friendliest. Our server, Swill, was awesome.

We  already knew what we were going to order before we even entered the establishment. The description John gave did it for us.

Don ordered the 1/2 West Coast Benny served on a potato latke. Did you really think he would order anything different?   Of course not.  It came with fresh fruit as well . He ordered a ‘small’ orange juice. Well…it is served in a beer glass and not so small at that. He said it was the freshest orange juice he had ever had.

I ordered the 1/2 Back Benny. This is egg, back bacon served on potato latke. Comes with fresh fruit and, when we finished our plates, we said we could have gone the full order. It was delicious. Both come with a Hollandaise sauce and that was delicious. In fact, our server, even offered to go into the kitchen and ask them to prepare the other half of our order. We just laughed and passed on that.

Hot coffees rounded out the meal.
