Cuckoo Trattoria, Coombs, B.C.

Yesterday was the last long weekend of the summer and after doing a few chores around the townhouse, Don suggested we go to Goat on the Roof for the afternoon. He hadn’t been to a market all summer and thought this would be a good time to go.

Off we went – takes about 30 minutes from Nanaimo, doing the speed limit only. We set the control just to see how long it did take us.

We shopped our faces off, both foods we wanted to buy, foods only this market has and also a few trinkets for Christmas.  After putting the bags in the car, we started to look for this Italian restaurant Don had been told about. It was a short walk up the slope and WOW! it is truly like being in Italy once you go inside. We opted for the patio ,partly in the shade, and ordered our beverage and foods we would share and sat back fully enjoying this piece of Italy.

We ordered the crab cakes and a pizza called the Cuckoo. OMG! It was absolutely fabulous. The crab cakes were a nice size ( 3 of them) with a beautiful aioli and the pizza was chicken, artichoke hearts, mozzarella cheese, and bell peppers.

We got through it SLOWLY and tried not to waddle out of the restaurant. Inside the tables all had beautiful white cloths and napkins. I am sure you think it should high end…it is but the prices are not.

We know a niece and her husband who would fall in love with this place. …hmmmmm.

Don’t pass this one by. It would be a major mistake.

White Spot #161 Nanaimo, B.C.

On Friday afternoon, my husband wanted to take me out  for a lunch date and he decided on the White Spot. We hadn’t been there since we arrived here and so  away we went. The restaurant is very large, very clean and we were seated right away.

I never have to look at the menu when I come here and anyone who knows me, knows what I order. Don, on the other hand, always looks and tries something different every time. I ordered a Tin Horn Creek Gewurztraminer and Don ordered his V. Caesar. The drinks arrive and we ordered our meal. Don ordered the 1/2 rack baby back ribs and I ordered a Monty Mushroom with extra sauce and could hardly wait for it to arrive.

The wine was delightful. Coming from the Okanagan and belonging to the Crush Club of Tin Horn Creek it was perfect anf properly chilled, and Don said his drink was really nice and not too spicy. The food now arrives and looks yummy. The ribs Don ordered literally fell off the bone. I tried one and it was very tasty. My burger came but something was amiss….didn’t know until I was checking the bill when we got home.

Kayla our server didn’t hear me say extra sauce please and it came with NO sauce whatsoever. I don’t know how she misheard that but anyway, it was  good just not perfection.

Never mind, we will try it again. Next to another restaurant in town, this is still in the top two.
