Back To Bubba Gumps – Lahaina

On Saturday we returned to Bubba Gumps and I will tell you why. After parking the car and walking over to the restaurant, there was a few people in line before us. It only took about 10 minutes and we were seated right at the window side overlooking the water.

Our two servers  (one in training) were Joe, Sr. Server and Melody,( in training). These two were on top of everything….the mode of operation in the restaurant, drinks and food options. We ordered our drinks (you already know that one) and Don ordered the New Orleans shrimp dish with Jasmine rice and I ordered the crab stuffed large shrimp with Jasmine rice. Oh yeah, we started out with popcorn shrimp as the appetizer. Gotta love their popcorn shrimp.

Without saying, the food is ALWAYS great and then we ordered, to share, the infamous key lime pie. Thank goodness we shared as the portion is huge.

Two things we keep noticing are:

#1 – everyone works as a team. Each one seems to help the other out when needed and

#2 – the young manager has total and consistent control over the operation of the restaurant. He doesn’t look very old but he really knows his position.

Will we return? ABSOLUTELY!

Peggy Sue’s Diner, Kihei

We have been coming here since 1999, and try not to miss it. Yesterday we headed out for lunch to this 50’s-style diner.

When we got there, we found that it is looking a little tired. It needs  a coat of paint to freshen it up and maybe they could, at least, re-arrange the pictures. Also, the jukeboxes are broken;  putting our money in and it was being spit out.

ANYWAY, we ordered our lunch. There is a lesson to be learned here…..I ordered a hot dog (you knew that, right?) with a side of fries and my own chocolate shake. (we always share our shake here but I wanted chocolate and Don only EVER has strawberry). Don ordered a chili dog with a side of potato salad and his strawberry shake.

We ate our hot dogs…I had 4 chips and Don had a forkful of salad. We then proceeded to consume, s-l-o-w-l-y, this monstrous shake. I kid you not these must be the best shakes in the known world and here is the rub when we got home we couldn’t eat any dinner. In fact, we only had a slice of raisin toast about 9 p.m. with our coffee/tea.

This place may be tired in appearance but the food is still great! You should come here and see for yourselves.
