Le Vieux Pin Winery/Burrowing Owl Restaurant

Today we played hookey. We  hung a headboard, put up a picture, moved a rocking chair (double seater) and small table and  a bicylclette with plants outside to a seating area, went for lunch at the NK’Mip Restaurant with Carole. After lunch we drove down to a newer winery here, Le Vieux Pin. http://levieuxpin.ca/

The entrance to the winery is really beautiful. Very French with all the lavender, rockery lay out and a game of Petanque . There is also a patio area set out to drink some wine or wait until you are called for a tasting. That was the nice thing. We three were inside and we were tasting their offerings and listening to all the young man had to tell us and,  if someone opened the door, he would ask them to wait on the patio for a few minutes until the next tasting. In other words, you were important to him and he was going to make sure you understood that. WOW! Of course, we bought a bottle of their wine.

After we finished that, we went to the Burrowing Owl Winery for dessert. As always, it was nice, although service was a tad slow.  Now off to the store to get stuff for supper. Don and Carole are making Butter Chicken with Jasmine rice and Carole is making a Green Chili dish. Sounds intriguing. Me? I get to set the table and, of course, clean up. Oh well, tomorrow will be a new day.

Tinhorn Creek Winery/Miradoro Restaurant

I am so excited to tell you all about this Restaurant.  http://www.tinhorn.com/  Firstly, the view is breathtaking and every seat has a view of the valley with its many orchards, vineyards, and mountains surrounding. That being said, the staff are professional without being stuffy and the dinner commences.

We were celebrating our 20th Wedding Anniversary last night and this is what we ordered.

Don had the clams and chorizo sausage in a tomato based sauce topped with shaved fennel. He said it was  the very best he had ever tasted.  Kept saying it….truly pleased with his choice.

I, on the other hand, ordered the marinated beet and  hazelnut salad – mint, pea shoots, ricotta cheese and the presentation was beautiful. The salad was perfect and I chose the Pinot Gris (on my own, I might add) and they suggested the very same wine. Aha!!

Now the second course:  Braised Lamb Ragout with “little ears” pasta. He says he never knew lamb could be so tender. The serving was more than generous and he thought he made the better choice. I, again, ordered something different. I had the forno  roasted chicken with crisp polenta (never had before but truly nice pairing to the chicken), grilled asparagus, beets, baby half carrot with partial stem. The chicken was perfectly sliced and melted in your mouth. WOW!

Now comes the finale to a perfect meal, can they keep this up?  Don ordered the locally produced Camembert cheese plate with crispy sesame rectangles and powdered almonds. He all but licked the plate. I ordered the hazelnut cake with pistachio ice cream and  candied pistachio “candies” sitting in a (for lack of a better description) “honey-like sauce. It was just a hint but boy was it tasty.

We had a great waiter, Justin. This young man has a wonderful sense of humor. Just ask him about the lady who wanted a full cup of coffee. Too funny!

Well worth it. If you are in the neighborhood, be sure to go there. We sure will again.
