Burrowing Owl Winery and Restaurant, Oliver, B.C.

There are times in one’s life when a certain action will remain in your heart forever. This afternoon was one of those actions.

Suzanne wanted to drive back and take some wonderful pictures of barns close to demise and we let her treat us to dessert at the Burrowing Owl Restaurant.  http://www.bovwine.ca/the_restaurant.html   Sounds fair, don’t you think?

Suzanne had Creme Brulee that was absolutely delicious. Don ordered a cheese sampler (4) that came with dried figs, homemade crackers and beautiful thinly sliced bread. There was also a chutney on the side. He almost drooled it was so good.

I had a chocolate hazelnut and marscapone semifreddo that was out of this world. It had a light touch of saskatoon berry sauce and a tuille on the side.

The presententation of the food was remarkable but the scenery of the vineyards and valley are truly breathtaking, It reminded us of being in the south of France. No wonder we moved here. Our server, Clover, knew her menu and was able to describe all that we wanted to know about the offerings on the dessert menu.  Ten thumbs up!

It was the first t ime we have ever just relaxed, enjoyed and savoured the afternoon. Being in love  with life in general is wonderful and the company I shared this afternoon made it even more so..

Firehall Bistro Restaurant, Oliver, B.C.

This building was apparently a firehall  http://www.thefirehallbistro.com/  at one time and the restaurant kept the name. The staff at the Firehall are very friendly and professional. With Suzanne being here for a few days to help us unpack, we took her here for lunch.

Don had the Russian Borscht with a multigrain bun and thought it was quite good.

Suzanne had the beef dip and she is still raving about it. The meat was “melt in your mouth” good and they put it in a garlic bun. She says the garlic bun made all the different.

I ordered a beef burger with cheese. It came with the usual tomato, lettuce and pickle  and now had the added sauteed mushrooms and bacon. This was quite tasty.

We like the Firehall Restaurant but find when something like the hockey games are on or it is getting warmer outside, people don’t always eat dinner at 6 p.m. We tried a couple of times and couldn’t get in as they lock the doors at 7:30 p.m.

I would truly love to see the restaurants in this area stay open a bit longer. Tourists don’t always fit the mold.

Would we come back again? Of Course we would.
