Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin

We have finally arrived after a not-so-nice flight and were met by our Tour Guide, Tom Horgan. More on this terrific man later.

The hotel room is well laid out and the shower comes with instructions and is fun to figure out. The bed is comfortable but jet lag makes a full night’s sleep questionable.

The dinner in the Dining Room was beef  in a beautiful sauce on rice  several salads. Dessert however will make you think the angels were singing just for you. It was a Bailey’s Cheesecake. It was very tasty and enjoyable.

The next morning eggs, baked beans, mushrooms, grilled tomato halves, blood pudding, sausages, Irish bacon, scones, pastries, toast, cereals, porridge, fresh fruit of all kinds, juices, coffee and tea. Now we have to get on the bus for a wonderful sightseeing trip through the streets of Dublin, Trinity College and seeing the book of Kells, and then walk through the Long Hallway where over 6 million books are shelved floor to ceiling. It has a staff of 180 people to look after this.

Our young guide (a student, was very knowledgeable, funny and walked us around the grounds explaining everything about the school and the traditions.

The afternoon was an option to go to the County of Wicklow and the countryside. There is a valley they call the ’40 shades of green’ and it is truly stunning. Once there we walked through St. Kevin’s monastic site and then return to Dublin via Sugerloaf mountain.

Wonderful day. Wow!

Ireland – Our Next Journey

Well, here we are. Don was able to upgrade with Air Canada but a word to the wise, don’t bother. We were not given access to the Air Canada lounge to grab some lunch before boarding. We were told that if we were going to Ireland, /Abu Dhabi and some other country,  we were not given access but told to go to another lounge. This we did, but it cost $80.00 for food that had run out but not replaced . So for that sum of money we got some very old rice and a couple small pieces of chicken. The salads were non- existent. Happy? not so much.

We did, however arrive in Ireland and were met by a charming lady named Debbie and a wonderful lilt to her voice. At the Hotel, we were met by or guide, Tom Horgan. Now with that name do you think he, as well, would be Irish? Yup ! We had a meet and greet dinner and then wen bed. We are exhausted.

Note: I will be playing catch up. Our guide, Tom, showed us where we could go to get a new cord for my laptop. Walked into a store called Sound and they had it in less than 5 seconds. So now, we are ready.
