We had tickets to attend at a “Bubbles” breakfast at the Road 13 Winery. We have lived here for over 2 1/2 years and had never been here. (Shame on me). http://road13vineyards.com/
There were approximately 20 people attending – some on vacation, some had been here several times prior, a group were members of a yacht club in Vancouver….now this is the desert, so that was a bit of a stretch., don’t ya think?
We were shown down to the stroage/processing room where we sample the sparkling wine “Chenin Blanc“. This was a true champagne and lovely to drink. I bought one, I might add. I thought I had become a wine snob, living here, but this winery just woke me up. Mick and his son gave a terrific explanation of how wineries do things, grapes grown, grapes imported- absolutely love it.
Now we go up into their dining room for breakfast. Here, we have three glasses lined up and they sample a Chardonnay (lovely, not “bitter or sharp”), a beautiful red and their winner, Malbec. ( I bought this one as well).
The breakfast was a beautiful fruit platter on the table, and plated was a lovely smoked salmon with two poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, squash and pea shoots. This was a winner! One thing we have noticed over the past couple of years when you attend functions like this…you go in the door as complete strangers and then, as if by magic, conversations start and you find that you have so much in common…woodworking as a hobby, things made, what to do if you retire, trips made, the reason we moved here…. Wow! What a great way to spend a Sunday morning
As if requested, the sun came out and the valley was at its best.
