The White Spot, Penticton, B.C.

While in the very sunny Penticton today for the Home & Reno Show, we stopped in at the newly re-built White Spot for a quick lunch.

To say the least, it was super busy and we had to wait a short while before being seated. After being seated, it took us a few moments to figure out what we wanted. The menu is large and it was hard to decide.

However, We did order. Don had the Clam Chowder soup and ordered the “baked potato” poutine. He didn’t care for the Clam Chowder. He found the clams were ‘too chewy’, overcooked, and under seasoned. The poutine was a little different. It had all the trimmings a baked potato would have i.e. bacon bits, sour cream on a heap of french fries, smothered in cheese and gravy. Yeah, I know, no diet here, but it was, in our defence, tasty.

I ordered the ‘Monty mushroom and bacon poutine. Again, it had the pile of french fries, cheese, gravy, bacon and mushrooms. Almost like their famous hamburger, but…..um ….almost as tasty. Again, no diet food, but tasty.

I ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio wine and it was perfectly chilled and crisp. Don ordered a pepsi and said it was really nice and cold.

All in all we will go back.  Our server, Katrina, was quite pleasant but seemed to be over whelmed with the number of customers in her section.

The surroundings are, of course, bright, shiny and new.

Brown Bridge Pub, Princeton, B.C.

Today, on our way home from Vancouver, we wanted to stop for a quick lunch break without having to leave the highway and go down into the town. We had already been to a couple of restaurants and were not happy with them and decided to try this one.

When you enter, it looks just like a good, clean pub. We ordered coffee and a cola to drink and Don ordered the one piece cod and fries and I, thinking ever so cautiously, would order a salad. I dread doing this because every salad I have ever ordered in a restaurant puts onions in and on the dish.

Well, our server was a real delight and the food was exceptional.  Don really enjoyed the fish and chips. It was piping hot and came with a great tasting coleslaw.

My ginger beef salad was so wonderful…..the beef was super tender and lots of  it on top of fresh spinach, grated purple and green cabbage (just enough, not too much) and cherry tomatoes.  I am still licking my lips.

It was our first visit and certainly won’t be our last. Clean, great pricing and great food. If they had a web page I would include it, but they don’t. If you drive through Princeton, give them a try. It is worth it just to stop and take a break.
